Question Description
Robert Byrd, a Congressman from West Virginia, was 92 years old in 2010 when he passed away as the longest serving Senator in history. First elected in 1953, Senator Byrd’s run as an elected official demonstrates there are no limits on the number of terms an individual can serve.
ACTION: Respond to the questions below and comment on a classmate’s comments for your weekly post. A response to a classmate can support an idea, question a point made, or expound on the post. Additionally, propose some changes for how long a member of Congress should be allowed to serve in you post this week (in response to point #1).
- Should members of Congress be limited to the number of terms they can serve?What is a positive AND a negative about limiting the terms of legislators? Propose a plan of how term limits would work. Include number of terms or years, and any other condition you think would be useful.
